These wires are able to "sense" when a switch is turned on, and then they communicate to the alien central command and operate the correct component. In the case of the 1800ES, they put smart wires into the car. These smart wires are just like normal wires, but they are used in instances where you want something to react if something else happens. They utilized this technology called "smart wires". Its really slick, and could only have been developed with help from aliens:

I actually like the solution Volvo came up with for my 1973 1800ES. I think I may be asking for a bit much, I know.
#Vw jetta dash lights driver
I'm in the camp that the car should notify the driver of things, but it should really be up to the driver to PAY ATTENTION to the conditions of the road, surroundings and their own vehicle! Turn off the dash lights (the needles are still lit up though) to encourage you to turn on your headlights. Highbeams are a glare problem.Īround here, its fairly common for people who live out in the countryside to drive home with their highbeams on at night, and leave them on, so the next morning, they're still driving around during the day with their highbeams on if their headlights are on. With headlights on all the time, or controlled automatically, I've seen people drive around during dawn, day and dusk with their highbeams on, and they were oblivious to it because it was really too bright for them to see the blue indicator light in their dash. I think DRLs are a good thing on long 2 lane highways during the day, as you can better see oncoming cars when you're looking to overtake slower traffic.

Here's my $0.02 on the whole DRL/Headlight visibility stuff:
